Changes are (ahem) afoot at Masterton’s Saunders Shoe store, with a change of ownership. Owner Gary Sims is moving on after 32 years.
The iconic store opened in 1946, and has a nationwide and international reputation for stocking an amazing selection of women’s footwear that has become the envy of many ‘big city’ stores.
The new owner is the tiny, sparkling Tracie Donald, a lady with more than a hint of Audrey Hepburn about her. Tracie has lived in the Wairarapa for 15 years, married to a fifth generation farmer in the South Wairarapa. But don’t worry, there’ll be no red bands in the store – Tracie is style all the way.
Tracie says she’s honoured to be taking over the reins, as her philosophy is service, service, service.
“We want our customers to enjoy visiting us. Have some fun, enjoy a laugh and feel excited when they walk out of the store with their yummy new shoes.” She says the store will continue to supply quality shoes and handbags. “We’re supported by wonderful New Zealand brands such as McKinlays, Minx and the perennial comfort shoe, Kumfs.” Tracie will also be introducing some exciting new brands to the mix. “We have some terrific brands and wonderful suppliers who adhere to our high standards,” she says.
In keeping with the iconic nature of the store, Tracie has inherited an amazingly experienced team to work with. “I’m fortunate to inherit Saunders’ loyal staff, two of whom have been there 58 and 15 years, and still possess a great passion for shoes and style.”
