Di Lusk loves peonies. So much so, that when she and husband Dean were organising their wedding there was no question that it would have to be in December, so she could have the frost-loving, old-fashioned blooms as her flowers.
After 20 years in the travel industry, Di and Dean moved to Martinborough 5 years ago so Di could help her sister at the Old Winery Café. Since then she’s worked at a variety of jobs, including running Oriental Parade Apartments.
“When the opportunity came up to manage Scenario of Martinborough, I jumped at the chance,” she says. Di and Dean bought the business on 1st April this year.
With the help of Di’s creative parents they’ve added fresh new decor and turned it into “Peonies of Martinborough”.
The name comes from Di’s favourite flower. She has 100 mature peony plants in her garden, and when they’re in season, she sells their voluptuous pink and white blooms in the shop.
Peonies of Martinborough continues to stock good quality, affordable homewares and gifts, with new additions creeping in from time to time as Di travels further afield on buying trips. Her good taste and eye for a reasonable price make it a great place for a browse. “It’s a shop where you know you can always find a gift,” say many of her customers.
With her love of shopping and displaying homewares combined with those beautiful fragrant flowers, Di is in her element.
